Vayo Raimondo's modern tango ensemble is based in Montevideo (Uruguay). Even though, many people associate tango with Argentina, tango was developed in both Argentina and Uruguay, in the Rio de la Plata (River Plate) region. Vayo focuses on the melodic and poetic side of tango, which is just as important as the dance component. His unique voice is accompanied by two virtuoso musicians: bandoneon maestro Toto Damario and guitarist Mario Nunez. Vayo performs classic tango in a passionate modern acoustic ensemble format.
Americas (Magazine of the Organization of American States) - November 2002 - Mark Holston
Vayo Raimondo is one of the most experienced tango singers and he treats each theme with all the force of his expressive capacity, revealing new emotional hues, even on well known themes as "A Media Luz". His own tango, of the same title as the album, speaks of "sweet poems", "great love", and "caresses".The accompaniment by guitarist Mario Nunez and bandoneonist Toto Damario maintain Raimondo's vocal magic on a firts plane.
Pharos-Tribune of Logansport - 25 July 2002 - Bryan Harris
Vayo Raimondo is a Uruguayan tango singer whose deep, introspective heart-melting baritone laughs and cries simultaneously. Though the lyrics are in Spanish, the emotions amplified in the rolling tides of Raimondo's voice are universal. Each song is a poem dedicated to love or loss of life's ongoing comedies and tragedies.
